3 Questions To Ask Before Getting Baptized

"It's been a life of chaos...and I am just now finding peace. I chose to get baptized because I wanted to choose to walk every single day fully and wholeheartedly with God."- Ally

Do you have a story like that? Are you willing to share that story? As you think about being baptized, take a look at what Jesus says in Matthew 28:18-20 and Acts 1:8 to help unpack what being baptized actually means.

Baptism is a symbol that shows the people in your life that you have decided to join with Jesus and make him the Savior and leader of your life. But what does that actually look like? Here are three questions to ask before getting baptized.

  1. Are you willing to live like Jesus has ALL authority in heaven and on earth? Matthew 28:18 begins with Jesus saying, "I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth." If you are thinking about getting baptized, this is a great question to start with!

  2. Once you are baptized, are you willing to go and baptize others? Jesus then tells His followers to "...go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit."

  3. Are you willing to make new disciples and teach them to obey what Jesus has said? Jesus then says the next step is to "teach these disciples to obey all the commands I have given you."

That can sound like a lot, but Jesus promises that you can "be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

Isn't that Good News? But that isn't it! In Acts 1:8, Jesus says that He will give you the power of the Holy Spirit to join Him in bringing life to the people around you!

So, are you ready to join Jesus in what He is asking in Matthew 28? If you’ve answered “yes” to these questions, you don’t have to wait to get baptized at a church! Find somebody who has helped you along your journey, and ask them to baptize you. If you do want to be baptized at Canyon Ridge, there are people ready to baptize and celebrate with you.

Dive In Deeper

Now that you've explored baptism a little, let's put your story together and teach you how to share it! Take a minute and write down one or two words that describe your life BEFORE you met Jesus. Then write down one or two words that describe your life AFTER you've met Him. It's that simple! It should only take about 15 seconds to share it. The most important part about sharing your story is asking if the person you share your story with has a story like that.

This is a great way to share how Jesus has transformed your life and invite them into a conversation about how Jesus can change their life. What a great and simple way to join Jesus in what He is talking about in Matthew 28 and Acts 1. Imagine the impact you would have if you shared your story and then opened up the floor for them to speak when you ask, "Do you have a story like that?"
