Is Unity Possible In The Church
Picture yourself sitting in a concert hall, preparing to listen to an orchestra. There are many instruments involved, and all of the instrumentalists have played at various skill levels for various lengths of time. With so many differences between them, one thing brings the instrumentalists together: the conductor.
Before beginning the symphony, with their eyes fixed on the conductor, the instrumentalists tune their instruments to a single shared note. Then, when the song starts, they each play different notes in harmony. What made this unity possible? The thing that united the people was more important to them than the things that divided them. The same is true of the Church.
In a world of varying experiences, opinions, and beliefs, division runs rampant. This has caused struggle since the beginning of time. Unity is not always easy to come by.
Yet, in the name of Jesus, it is possible.
Ephesians 2 teaches that when people allowed worldly issues to divide them, they were made one in Christ. He rewrote the story, claiming sovereignty even over the problems that split people apart.
Unity in Jesus allows people to reimagine both who they are and what they do.
It is not necessary to strive for perfection or to fight to be "right," because Jesus, in his grace, reigns over those things.
When you set your eyes on him, rather than on the things that separate, only then can you experience unity. Tune your instrument to the instruction of the conductor, and join in the music of the orchestra.
