Jesus is the Promise Fulfilled
Have you ever experienced a promise made that was not kept? How did that affect your relationship with that person and your future expectations for them?
On the flip side, when a person makes a meaningful promise to you and keeps it, what does that mean to you? How does it impact your relationship?
Scripture is filled with promises made and kept.
Matthew 1 tells the story of Jesus’ birth, starting with a long genealogy — the list of names of those who came before Jesus in His family line. This, in itself, demonstrates the promise that God made to Abraham and David hundreds of years before: that a Savior would come, from their people, rescuing them not only from slavery and struggle, but from sin.
Matthew 1:18 quotes a prophecy about the birth of the Savior: “They will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’”
Jesus was born and God’s promise was kept. The long-awaited Messiah had arrived, and He was with His people.
Hundreds more years have passed since that moment and the promise remains true. Because of Jesus, God is with you.
Life attempts to promise salvation through money, vacations, health, or life hacks. Have you ever been tempted to seek those things instead of living with God? How did that go?
These promises can never be fulfilled. A promise is only as good as the one who makes it.
True salvation is found only in Jesus, who came to the earth for you. His life, death, and resurrection fulfill God’s promise to be with you always (Matthew 28:20).
