We Are The Sent Ones
It doesn't take long to see that our world is broken. Look around and notice all the ways the world needs the Good News of life with Jesus. It makes us wonder what God's plan is to meet the needs of the suffering and to help a fractured and divided world. Who will be the ones to go and bring the compassion of Jesus? The answer: We are, the people of God.
Jesus shares a bold and clear warning to His disciples in Matthew 10:32-42. Jesus' mission with them on earth is nearing the end, and He sends the twelve disciples to go and make disciples:
"'Everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven" (Matthew 10:32-33).
Take a deep breath and let that sink in. Jesus doesn't stir the pot to cause unnecessary division, but for the sake of the Kingdom of God moving forward. Jesus says the stakes are high, but they're worth it for those who walk with compassion in His name. That's because He is doing something bigger than we can imagine.
Disciple-makers use their actions to words to declare that Jesus is first. Followers of Jesus listen to the Spirit of God and other followers unashamed about the truth of Jesus, not to chase people away, but to give people a chance to draw near.
