It's Too Much Work | Can We Be Friends | Mitch Harrison

Friendship is hard work, but always worth the risk. We need the affirmation, support and truth that comes with meaningful friendship. As we see across Scripture, committed friends remind us of God’s love for us, by how they choose to be with us and for us. How can you be the kind of friend you’d like to find?

Key Verses

  • Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 NLT: Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.

  • Proverbs 18:24 NLT: There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.

  • 1 John 4:11-12 NLT: Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us.

  • Proverbs 17:17 NLT: A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need.

  • Proverbs 27:9 NLT: The heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume and incense.

  • Proverbs 27:6 NLT: Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy.

One of the best ways to hear what God is saying right now is to look at what He has said in the Bible with a few friends. Discovery Bible Study is an easy-to-use way to hear from God, make good changes in our lives, and share with others what God is up to. Grab some friends, pick a verse or story from above, and dive deeper into this week’s message.
