Sacrifice | Going Together | Erin Johnston
Jesus invites us to walk alongside Him to spark a movement of disciple-makers, with too many generations to count, in the city of Las Vegas and beyond. Paul experiences surrender, trust, and generosity on his journey to disciple-making, and he shares with the church in Philippi the impact of sacrifice. He reminds us that sacrifice is love in action, it is always costly, it builds legacy, and it is dying to self. Where is Jesus inviting you to sacrifice for Him and the people He loves?
KEY VERSES
Philippians 2:12-18 NLT Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him. Do everything without complaining and arguing so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. Hold firmly to the word of life; then, on the day of Christ’s return, I will be proud that I did not run the race in vain and that my work was not useless. But I will rejoice even if I lose my life, pouring it out like a liquid offering to God, just like your faithful service is an offering to God. And I want all of you to share that joy. Yes, you should rejoice, and I will share your joy.
Philippians 2:17 NLT But I will rejoice even if I lose my life, pouring it out like a liquid offering to God, just like your faithful service is an offering to God. And I want all of you to share that joy.
Numbers 15:5 NLT For each lamb offered as a burnt offering or a special sacrifice, you must also present one quart of wine as a liquid offering.
Mark 12:41-44 NLT Jesus sat down near the collection box in the Temple and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large amounts. Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins. Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions. For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on.”
Philippians 2:16 NLT Hold firmly to the word of life; then, on the day of Christ’s return, I will be proud that I did not run the race in vain and that my work was not useless.
Luke 9:23 NLT Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me.
Galatians 2:20 NLT My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Philippians 2:18 NLT Yes, you should rejoice, and I will share your joy.
