An encounter with Jesus changes everything. In Luke 19, Jesus meets Zacchaeus, a rich man who moves from chief tax collector of Rome to an active contributor to God’s Kingdom. His private encounter with Jesus has a transformative impact on the public. Throughout Scripture, God has a lot to say about money: how to steward, share, and yield for one’s growth, for people’s good, and for God’s glory. Zacchaeus’ story is one of many in which God teaches through reordering one man’s life to help reorder a community as a whole. Let’s dive in.
